    Pikey Peak Trek 9 Days Route

    Our trek starts with the long drive to Dhap from Kathmandu. Dhap is your trekking starting point, and from there, you will reach Japre, which takes around 4 hours. From Jhapre you will reach Pikey Base Camp which takes about 7 hours. This is the highest trekking point during the trek. You will then descend to Taktor, which takes about 9 hours from Pikey Base.

    Next day, descend further to Junbesi, and you will also visit Thubtenchoeling Monastery. After breakfast, you will start trekking to Ringmo. During the walk, you will see the beautiful views of Mt. Everest, Thamserku, and Kusum Kangaru. The next day, you will trek ahead to Phaplu via Chiwong Monastery. Finally, the trek comes to an end when you fly to Kathmandu via Phaplu.

    Is Pikey Peak Trek Difficult?

    Pikey Peak Trek has short trekking days and short climbs. So, it is rated as a moderate trek because it requires less endurance and less chance to expose the risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).

    Getting to the details, this 11-day trek climbs from 1,300 m to 3,640 m. That is almost an altitude gain of 3400 m. You have to walk normally 5 to 6 hours a day, but you have to walk nearly 9 hours on two days. This climb is one of the most moderate during the trek. But it may reveal the chance of altitude sickness if you are not alert.

    It is a notice to all our guest who is joining Pikey Peak Trekking with us that our journey will begin with a bus ride from Kathmandu-Dhap and ends with Phaplu-Kathmandu. This will be included in the package; however, with an additional cost, you can book a Private Jeep or domestic flight.

    We, The Himalayan Odyssey, will organize the Pikey Peak with the most suitable arrangements. However, there can be some issues that are beyond our handle. Heavy rainfall, snowing, avalanches and landslides can extend the trip in the lower altitude region. This itinerary is only for guidelines. We can customize the itinerary according to your requirement and the time you have.

    Today you will be picked from the hotel and after a long drive, you will be transferred to the Dhap. the 8 hours journey leaves the chaotic city via Okhaldhunga along Sun Koshi River. As you reach further, you will then join to roaring big Koshi River until you reach Ghurmi.

    Further, you will continue toward subtropical forests of beautiful rhododendrons, settlements, and several countrysides until you reach Dhap. If the weather is clear, you will be able to see the mesmerizing view of Number Chuli Peak.

    After breakfast, you will start your trek along with a trail until you reach Sigane village. further, after some hours of additional walk, you will reach Jhapre. During the walk, you will be able to see mighty Mt. Everest and other small peaks. In your free time, you can soak into the village and enjoy the nice viewpoint just north of the village.

    After early morning wakeup, you will witness the amazing view of Numbur Chuli, Everest, and the beautiful landscape of the eastern view. As you climb towards the trial, pine and rhododendron forest refresh you until you reach Bhulbule

    If you come to the Spring season, then the whole forest will be colorful from the Rhododendron during the walk. afterward, the trail continues along with Lhamuje, and then Pikey Peak Base Camp. During the walk, you will pass through grazing walks, pastures, yaks, and steep uphill zigzag trails.

    After breakfast, you will start your uphill walk until you will reach Pikey Peak which may take about 1 hour. If the weather is clear, you will be exhilarated to see the golden sun over the white peaks. You will see a series of mountain peaks including Everest, Thamserku, Khangtega, Khatang, Karyoling to the north, Kanchenjunga to the east, and Manaslu, Dhaulagiri, Gaurishankar, Dorje Lakpa, and Langtang to the west.

    The trail then climbs upward for a few hours which will be passing through rhododendron and pine forest until you reach Bhanjyang. After some ups and down into the ridge, the trail then enters into long descent to the Taktor.

    After early morning breakfast, you will walk further and stays level until you reach Junbesi. You will feel alive as you pass through several Mani walls and stone chortens. During the walk, you will also be able to visit the 19th-century Thubtenchoeling Monastery.

    After breakfast, head out on the last day to the trek to Pikey Peak as you make your way to Phaplu. During the walk, you will pass through Chiwong Monastery. After some hours of trek, we will end our trek in Phaplu and catch our bus back to Kathmandu.

      Travel Insurance

      Travel Insurance is compulsory for all the trekkers who are going to take part in Pikey Peak Trek. We recommend a comprehensive travel insurance package to all our clients. The insurance must cover helicopter rescue and evacuation expenses at High altitudes.       • Altitude Sickness & Acclimatization

      Pikey Peak Trek takes you to the highest point of your trek at 3640 meters above sea level at Pikey Base Camp. Trekking below 3000 m is not a problem but above there are low levels of oxygen. Which sometimes makes breathing complex. While you are at a high altitude, you need to trek slowly and keep your body hydrated. If you are walking fast to succeed in your destination in less time, the probability you will suffer from AMS.

      Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) is the mildest form and it is very common at higher altitudes. The symptoms can appear – dizziness, headache, muscle aches, and nausea. Taking Diamox and a good night’s rest may go for mild cases. Drinking enough fluids like water, tea, soup, etc. will help to stay away from altitude sickness.

      If the condition is worsening then, one may need to return to a lower elevation and receive medical help. Teams should make sure that the condition will not worsen and should take precautions. If there is a worst-case scenario then an air evacuation should be arranged. If AMS is untreated or ignored, it can take your life. Our Pikey Peak Trek itinerary has been designed to reduce the altitude problems making your trek smooth. The itinerary is well-paced and enables your body to adapt oxygen within the mountain air.

      All your foods are included in your package including Lunch, Breakfast, and Dinner. The food will be served as per the package and besides that cost will be extra if you extend the trip more than the schedule of our package.       Best Time to Trek Pikey Peak

      There are two best seasons for Pikey Peak Trek Spring and Autumn. Spring starts from (March-May) and Autumn starts from (September-November).       The beauty of this trek in spring lies in enjoying the blossoming rhododendrons, especially in April. In the Spring season, the misty woods on the trial come alive with varied shades of red and scarlet.

      You are in for a treat of a lifetime. Varieties of rhododendron decorated the whole forest, forming entire hills in different colours. The trek adds magical touch when sunrays diffuse, filtering in from colourful flowers.
